In an image building exercise ahead of Assembly polls to be held in February next year, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on Sunday sacked four ministers from her cabinet.

The sacked ministers include Agriculture Education and Research minister Rajpal Tyagi, Higher Education minister Rakeshdhar Tripathi, Awadhesh Kumar Verma and Hari Om.

It should be noted that the state Lokayukta is probing corruption cases against all four ministers and the Opposition was demanding their resignation for a long time.

Of late, Mayawati is going hard at tainted ministers who are under the Lokayukta scanner.

Mayawati has already sacked five tainted ministers – Rural Development Minister Ratan Lal Ahirwar , Rajesh Tripathi, Awadhpal Singh, Badshah Singh and Rangnath Mishra – on the recommendation of Lokayukta, in an apparent clean-up exercise ahead of the assembly polls due in 2012.

The Lokayukta, in the report sent to the Chief Minister on November 28, recommended removal of Ahirwar after indicting him on charges of misusing his local area development fund and encroaching on village land.
